Spooky Cookies

These spooky cookies are a fun treat for the whole family. Bake them and let everyone decorate their own for a holiday activity! 

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 Cup all-purpose flour, plus more for work surface
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1 Cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp Milk    

Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 Cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 5 Cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ Cup heavy cream
  • ½ tsp pure almond extract
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • Food coloring

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Wisk until mixed and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy and pale in color. Add egg, milk and vanilla and beat until combined, then add flour mixture gradually until totally combined.
  4. Shape into round disk and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate the dough for one hour!
  5. Lightly flour a clean work surface and roll out the dough until it’s 1/8” thick. Use Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut out your cookies. Put onto Double Burner Pan or a cookie sheet (lined with parchment) and freeze for 10 minutes.
  6. To make your frosting, In a large bow, beat together butter and powdered sugar until no lumps remain. Add your cream, almond extract (optional) and salt. Continue mixing until combined. 
  7. Bake cookies until edges are lightly golden, 8 - 10 minutes. 
  8. Let your cookies cool and then decorate with frosting!
