Cranberry Mule

When you're planning your holiday celebration, don't forget the cocktails! This seasonal twist on a Moscow Mule is sure to be your new favorite.

I became a fan of Moscow Mules a couple of years ago and invested in a pair of copper mugs to serve them in. You can find relatively inexpensive copper mugs at most housewares stores but they need to be washed and dried by hand and they may tarnish over time. Tarnish can be removed with some elbow grease and Barkeepers Friend or by coating the mug with ketchup and letting the ketchup set for a bit before washing the mug well and drying it.

If you're hosting a holiday get-together and want to serve this mule recipe without making an investment in specialized drinkware, you can really use any short glass you have and jazz the presentation up with some simple DIY.

Get crafty with ice cubes and garnishes. Make ice in a tray and place a fresh cranberry into each section and freeze. You could pick up a pack of inexpensive cocktail picks and thread a few fresh cranberries on them for garnish or add a sprig of mint along with a lime wedge. It's really up to you.

If you're looking to cut calories in your holiday drinks (saving them for dessert), you can substitute diet ginger ale and diet cranberry juice to make the drink a little lighter. Enjoy responsibly with friends and family. Cheers!

  • 3 oz cranberry ginger ale
  • 2 oz of cranberry juice
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • ½ lime, juiced
  • splash of spiced rum
  • lime wedges for garnish
  • ice


  1. Combine ginger ale, cranberry juice, vodka and lime juice and ice in a cold Moscow Mule mug.
  2. Add a splash of spiced rum and stir.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge.
