Spooky and Healthy Halloween Monster Treats

This time of year adults and children alike go crazy for scary treats. Made from fruits, nuts and just enough sweet bits to make them fun for the whole family, these Halloween-time treats will be the hit of the party.

Most are loaded with sugars and artificial flavors but it doesn’t have to be that way.  Enter, these spooky monster faces. Aside from being healthy, spooky and fun, this is something the kids can help with!

Cook Time: 5 Minutes
Yield: 6 ghosts & 10 monsters
Difficulty: Easy

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 bananas, peeled and halved
  • 2 granny smith apples, cut into 5 portions and cored
  • 2 Tbsp peanut butter
  • 1/2 Cup cocktail peanuts, skins removed
  • 10 marshmallows
  • 5 oz chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cut a portion out of each apple slice to resemble a mouth.
  2. Spread peanut butter inside of each apple “mouth”
  3. Insert peanuts to look like teeth, selecting the correct size (largest in the middle and smallest on the outside).
  4. In a Swiss Diamond saucepan melt the chocolate chips until fully melted.
  5. Using a pastry bag or squeeze bottle, “paint” the faces on the bananas and eyeballs on the marshmallows.
  6. Allow chocolate to fully dry.
  7. Using a toothpick, secure one marshmallow to the top of each apple “mouth”
  8. Arrange on serving platter and enjoy.
